In the summer I went to one of the local attractions in the Triangle area and while at the gift shop bought a book on gardening for / with children. In the book there was a section on how to make a scarecrow. I never made one before and I thought the kids would find it interesting. So, I had Tom make me a wooden cross to use for his body and then I decorated him with items I bought at the local Goodwill. Our neighbor Heather modeled the jacket and hat for us (hee hee). We stuffed him with straw and decorated his shirt and pants with patches from the ugliest coat I have ever seen. The material was perfect for making patches. We just recently took him down, but for Christmas we put a santa hat on him. He was there for about 4 and a half months. Enjoy!
